Unique Role of a Doula

I believe birth is a rite of passage that everyone passes regardless of how it happens. As your doula, my goal is to support you with the type of birthing experience you desire. From the start, I collaborate with you and offer techniques and exercises both during pregnancy and labor to improve childbirth outcomes. I work in a way that is affirming, uplifting, and there with you every step of the way. My approach is client-centered, nonjudgmental with a down-to-earth style. I understand the unique gifts and challenges new parents face and aim to provide effective, simple tools to help you feel more confident and connected to your inner wisdom during the birth process and beyond.  Here’s an idea of what to expect from our work together:

Emotional Support and Guidance

  • Help you feel safe and secure.  
  • Provide nurture and comfort.  
  • Offer praise and encouragement.
  • Validate feelings and alleviate fears.    

Support Dad or Partner

  • Help dad/partner be emotionally present.  
  • Help dad/partner understand what is normal.

 Physical Support  

  • Relaxation techniques.  
  • Aromatherapy.
  • Position changes.
  • Fluid intake.
  • Nutritional needs.
What to Expect

 

 Services Offered

I work with expectant couples and/or individuals living in the Truckee-Tahoe area and Reno.

Birth Packages Include:

  • Two prenatal visits that include an opportunity to discuss your birth vision, talk about any fears or concerns, practice comfort measures, and develop your postpartum plan
  • Continuous labor support
  • One to two postpartum visits
  • Complimentary class for couples
  • Unlimited phone, text, & email support

Rate: $1800

Kate was wonderful to work with from the very start. I felt an immediate connection with her during our initial call, and really appreciated her approach to birth support. Her calming presence and gentle encouragement was incredibly helpful during my labor. She was able to coach me into different positions that gave me some comfort, and her use of essential oils was very soothing. Kate was our Doula for the birth of our daughter, and my husband and I both said afterwards that we couldn’t have done it without her. Kate was very professional and warm and took the time to get to know us before the birth. She listened attentively to our needs and desires and asked great questions.
Once I went into labor she provided a great combination of support while also giving us our space. She helped us stay at home to labor and navigate when to go to the hospital. At the hospital Kate did a great job of pushing me to get up and walk/move/eat/shower to manage my pain and keep labor progressing while also listening to me when I needed to rest or meditate. We would absolutely use Kate again and would highly recommend her to others.
